Better Questions Than “Why Can’t You Just?”
Five questions that invite curiosity about the experience behind behavior, from getting started to understanding the cost of a task.

“Why can’t you just…?”
For some of us, that question follows us for years.
🙄 Just focus.
🙄Just get started.
🙄Just ignore the noise.
🙄Just ask for help.
Book 5, Grounded in How I’m Wired, invites us to ask better questions.
1️⃣ What does this take out of you?
Finishing the task tells you what someone accomplished.
It doesn’t tell you what it cost them.
2️⃣ What helps you get started?
More pressure may not help.
A clearer first step, different instructions, or fewer distractions might.
3️⃣ What are you working so hard to hide?
Sometimes the person who seems fine has spent the entire day making sure you think so.
4️⃣ What would make this easier?
People don’t always know what support they need.
Give them room to explore without demanding an immediate answer.
5️⃣ What have you learned to believe about yourself?
Years of being called difficult, lazy, or “too sensitive” can shape how you see yourself.
👀Those labels deserve questioning.
I wrote this book for people trying to understand their own wiring, and for the parents, educators, leaders, and loved ones trying to understand someone else’s.
Understanding begins when we get curious about the experience behind the behavior.
